BOOK LAUNCH

When my latest book, 'When War Came to Laundry Cottage' was complete, I had a clear vision of how I wanted my launch to look. I craved the vintage vibe of wartime village halls and that community feel. It also felt like a great opportunity to support our local hospice, and to raise some money for them. I set about asking for donations of plants, tombola, raffle prizes and second hand clothing. My community were incredible in getting behind this idea and generous with their donations.

My tables would be themed, 'dig for victory', 'NAAFI', 'rationing', 'make do and mend' and I also wanted tables set up for visitors to mingle and chat, whilst enjoying their cake and tea. I wanted china cups, fresh flowers and appropriate back ground music!

My close friends and I arrived at the Ruardean village hall early, to set up with our bunting, vintage table cloths and cakes. We worked our magic and the hall was transported back in time. Once we hit play on my 1940s playlist, my vision was complete. It was a joyous moment and I hoped people would come along. I need not have worried, because the afternoon was a resounding success, the air alive with chatter and generosity. The local newspaper representative arrived, and covered the event for us.

It truly was a special day, topped off by our raising £563.
